Thanks so much to everyone who came to The Grail Moviehouse for our official screening of Bottle Conditioned, a Lambic beer documentary. It was especially great to be surrounded by so many industry friends from Asheville’s craft beer world who share a love for lambic.
If you’re unfamiliar with the film, it was created by Academy Award® nominated filmmaker Jerry Franck. He explores the small Belgian community of lambic beer, where brewers and blenders of different generations wrestle with tradition and the increased demand for their rare beers. It follows the story of 3 Fonteinen, Cantillon Brewery, and Raf Souvereyns’s Bokke Blendery, painting a picture of tradition and how they’re adjusting to a new world that loves lambic beer.
It was an honor to have the homies Jeremy and Todd from Fonta Flora in the house. They’re some of the best in the game when it comes to great, local, lambic-inspired beers. Fonta Flora has strong local roots using only NC ingredients whenever possible. They truly embody the traditions that you can see in the documentary in a new, fresh way. It was great to pick their brains about the brewing process and where they see the industry headed.
We wanted to use this opportunity to share this documentary as an educational tool. The possibilities are limitless when it comes to crafting excellent beer. If you missed the screening, try and catch it at another location when you get a chance.
