Super Glou Pet-Nat Tasting

5:00 PM - 9:00 PM | Charleston, SC

Tuesday, May 16, 2023

Calling all Pet-Nat lovers (or the pet-nat curious!)

Join us Tuesday, May 16th for a Super Glou Pet-Nat Tasting featuring some killer By-The-Glass wine specials curated by Charleston’s favorite natural wine bar, Bar Rollins.

The wines were imported by Super Glou, a brainchild of Glou Glou magazine. They represent a concise portfolio of small-production, low-intervention producers from France, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, Catalunya, Chile, and pockets of America.

If you get hungry, no fear. King BBQ will be in the house.

What is a pet-nat?

Pét-nat is an abbreviation for “pétillant naturel”—a French term that roughly translates to “naturally sparkling.”

“Pét-nat is a wilder version of a sparkling wine like Champagne,” says Jared Brandt, owner of Berkeley, California’s Donkey & Goat Winery, which has produced pét-nat since 2010. “When people ask, I tell them pét-nat is a wine that we bottle during initial fermentation, and the sugars from the grapes provide the bubbles.”

As you may know, during alcohol fermentation, yeasts eat sugar. The byproducts of this process are alcohol and carbon dioxide. In non-sparkling wines—your Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, etc.—most or all fermentation occurs before bottling, so there is no trapped C02, and therefore no bubbles. Learn more from Food & Wine here.
