Our friends over at DSSOLVR teamed up with Crooked Run Fermentation to brew up crispy Italian Pilsner and we will be releasing it here at The Whale on March 31. The name is still being cooked up, but we will let you know as soon as we know!
Representatives from both breweries will be here in attendance to hang out and pour some fun stuff. Also, we’ll be there. And, our bartenders can’t wait to pour you something great.
The simple answer is that Italian pilsners are German-style pilsners that have been dry-hopped with European hops for maximum aroma. Dry hopping is the process of adding hops to beer to maximize aroma without imparting bitterness.

It’s DSSOLVR’s forever quest to bring us all the most SURREAL offerings they can craft, highlighting the best and greatest of both OLD SCHOOL and NEW SCHOOL brews. That means Lagers, IPAs (clear AND hazy), Wild Ales, Big Ol’ Stouty Stouts, Super Sessions, and everything in between. In their surrealist endeavors, they work with local farmers, artisans, and makers of all kinds in an effort to expand tastes and visuals beyond your average horizons.
While they’re the most passionate about beer, the root of their curiosity lies in fermentation itself. To feed that thirst, they explore a whole smattering of beverages outside the realm of beer, including Wines, Ciders, and Meads, as well as non-alcoholic beverages.
With DSSOLVR, you can expect the unexpected as we crush our way through the whole spectrum of tastes and flavors.
Crooked Run is based out of Virginia. They are producing both contemporary and traditional styles, mixed fermentation ales, natural wines, ciders, and seltzers. They are known for being a really cool spot to hang out with killer lagers, IPAs, and kettle sours.
We are excited for this release! Come out and see us. Check out what other events we have going on here at The Whale AVL. There is always something fun going on.
